OUR armed forces are engaged in two bloody conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

By the admission of the head of the Army, forces are overstretched and times between tours are not long enough. Our troops are giving their all but the government is giving little in return. We have a part-time Defence Secretary - an insult to both Scotland and the armed forces - a defence budget which barely keeps pace with inflation and soldiers in fear of legal retribution from armchair pundits who know little of the heat of battle.

Returning wounded are not getting appropriate care from the NHS and bereaved families wait months and years for inquests. At a time when the economy and the government are entering a difficult period, it is important that the public and their MPs maintain pressure on the government to address these issues.
