A tooth-paste loving councillor is conjuring up many a trick-or-treater's worst nightmare by dressing up as a dentist this Halloween.

North Kensington councillor and star of the first series of The Apprentice Matthew Palmer, of Dalgarno Gardens, will be surprising would-be sweet guzzlers on Friday by doling out toothpaste rather than treats to youngsters knocking on his door.

The unusual move is a bid to preserve the toothy-grins of Royal Borough children, many of whom suffer from rotting teeth and poor dental hygiene.

He said: "If I had my way I'd encourage everyone to do it. There is an important lesson to be learnt."

But the councillor dismissed fears that dissatisfied sugar-starved youngsters may play a trick on him, saying: "They won't do that. I normally give them fruit or nuts and many have responsible parents who are generally amused."
