In the 1960s his surgery moved to new premises in Belmont Road where he became the senior partner. He practised there until he retired in the late 1980s.

Dr Fenton died after a short illness, aged 90, on February 12 at the New Tunbridge Wells Hospital, Pembury, where he had completed some of his training 70 years earlier.

He began his medical training at Guy’s Hospital, London, at the beginning of the war.

During the Blitz he was evacuated to Pembury Hospital just outside Tunbridge Wells where he trained as a surgeon and physician.

Towards the end of the war he served in Egypt as a medical officer with the Irish Guards and was later posted to Palestine.

After he retirement he lived in Denham, Buckinghamshire, for a few years before moving to San Francisco, California where he lived for 15 years.
