BUDGET chain Travelodge has announced plans to open six hotels in Hammersmith and Fulham.

It says the borough has a lack of rooms and claims its one hotel in the area, in North End Road, Fulham, is full of relatives visiting families who do not have enough space to accommodate them.

The chain, which has 59 branches in London and nearly 500 nationwide, says it is looking at sites in Hammersmith, Fulham, Olympia, Parsons Green, Shepherd’s Bush and White City.

Chief executive Grant Hearn said: “Our existing hotel in Hammersmith and Fulham performs strongly all year round. Whether it be business travellers, leisure customers or families coming to visit loved ones, we are regularly achieving high occupancy levels.

“Inner London boroughs have a lack of good quality, affordable accommodation. Unfortunately, business and leisure visitors who want to stay close to central London do not currently have many options at a price point that represents value. Opening hotels at our target locations in Hammersmith and Fulham will ensure that the borough benefits from tourists to the capital who want to experience all that the local area has to offer, as well as be close to central London.”

The company, which plans to open the hotels over a 15-year period, claims it will create 120 jobs and £12million for the local economy. It hopes to open 145 hotels in total.
