Travellers moved into two sites in Ruislip last week before a team effort by police and council officers moved them out of the borough.

Nine caravans arrived at the Water's Edge car park next to Ruislip Lido in Reservoir Road, Ruislip at around 1pm on Thursday last week.

The car park was locked with a padlock and chain which had allegedly been cut when the travellers entered.

At 2.30pm the council was made aware of a second set of four caravans that had settled in Mad Bess Woods, Ruislip.

Hillingdon Council's green spaces team secured both areas with the help of Hillingdon police officers to ensure that nobody was let into the site and nobody was allowed to leave the site unless they were leaving in their caravan.

The police served notices that required the travellers to leave both sites by 9am the next day (Friday).

At the same time the council had applied to the court for a warrant to evict the travellers, but all of the caravans left the Ruislip spots at around 8pm on November 28.

The families didn't travel far, setting up home in the car park of the privately-owned Kodak Sports Ground in Harrow View, Wealdstone .

Council cleaners spent Friday morning cleaning up any rubbish left behind by the families in Ruislip.
