A PROMISING young teacher who was a trainee at Brunel University has died from her injuries after a head-on collision in a busy road.

Elaine Stacey, who had taught at Viking Primary School, in Radcliffe Way, Northolt, for about a year, lost her fight for life on Sunday night.

The 24-year-old was seriously injured in a crash involving three cars on February 28 on the A413 in Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire near where she lived.

Sue Townson, headteacher at Viking Primary, said: "Everybody loved her, everyone thought she was a delight, such a hard-working and giving sort of girl. The whole school community are shocked and devastated. We have lost a lovely teacher and we are all grieving for her. She showed such promise and she will be sadly missed."

Miss Stacey had joined the school while a trainee on a placement from Brunel University in Uxbridge.

Ms Townson kept her on after she qualified in September to look after a year two class teaching six and seven-year-olds.

She had been driving a Fiat Punto when she collided with a Ford Focus and a Ford Ranger at about 8pm.

She was airlifted to a hospital in Oxford in a critical condition but died a week later.
