Motorists will have to dodge waterworks up and down the borough in the coming weeks, as roads are closed.

Most roads will be closed from February 17, with diversions in place, although access to properties will be maintained.

Affinity Water engineers will be replacing water mains, and Thames Water is to fix a sewer at the junction of Fairfield Road and Belmont Road in Uxbridge, requiring the closure of Fairfield Road.

All closures will be lifted as soon as possible, once work is complete. Most are small roads but two of the closures will cause disruption.

Willow Tree Close in Hayes is the only access route to the A312 Parkway from Yeading Lane, so closing it will cause a long detour via Uxbridge Road or north to the White Hart roundabout.

And Cowley Mill Road in Uxbridge will be closed between the junctions with Waterloo Road and Wallingford Road, which includes Swan Bridge across the Grand Union Canal.

The resulting detour is a big loop via St John's Road, Rockingham Road and Cowley Road.

This closure will be in place for a month, from February 22-March22.

Affinity will write to its customers affected by the mains work, and the road closures will be advertised with advance warning notices.

An Affinity Water spokesman said: "Over the next 12 months, Affinity Water will be upgrading some of the underground network of pipes that supply water each day to customers in the London Borough of Hillingdon. This work represents an investment of £2.7m.

"Some of the existing water mains were laid more than 50 years ago and have given many years of good service, but have now reached the end of their useful lives.

"We are working closely with Hillingdon Council to ensure that we have a co-ordinated approach with any other work that is planned in the area."
