The traders in Isleworth who are complaining that they are not allowed to obstruct the highway should take heed from the threat by Hounslow Council regarding fines.

I have recently successfully campaigned to claim back the pavements in Hounslow West from the numerous shopkeepers who decided that a shop was not enough for them.

Some of the shopkeepers were warned on numerous occasions and eventually were hit with quite substantial fines, as this newspaper reported a few months ago.

The area is now much safer and cleaner for pedestrians, who incidentally pay council tax for the upkeep of the pavement and subsequent safe use.
