An off-licence caught selling alcohol to under-age children several times has had its licence revoked.

Bargain Booze, in Field End Road, Eastcote, had its premises licence withdrawn on Friday - less than a year after 542 residents signed a petition opposing the opening of the shop.

The licensing sub-committee heard how the owner, Dalbag Johal, sold alcohol to under-age teenagers on at least three occasions.

Emma Thompson, a PCSO for Eastcote and East Ruislip Safer Neighbourhoods Team, gave evidence about a group of youths she had to deal with in August and September last year who were drunk and disorderly.

After receiving complaints from residents about the shop and noticing the youths were carrying Bargain Booze bags, she went to check the CCTV.

On two separate days the group of boys were seen buying alcohol, including bottles of Southern Comfort, vodka, and beer, without being asked for any proof of age.

Hillingdon Police carried out a test purchase at the shop in November by a 15-year-old police cadet, and Mr Johal again sold him alcohol without asking for ID.

The premises' licence was then reviewed, following requests by Eastcote Residents' Association (ERA). Bargain Booze also stripped Mr Johal of his franchise and he has since been running it as an independent business.

ERA member Lesley Crowcroft, who started the petition, said: "On the evidence we heard and saw I think the committee made the right decision.

"The fewer venues selling cheap alcohol in Eastcote the better."

PCSO Thompson said: "I am glad the licence has been revoked. Let it be a message to other premises that we are very keen to enforce the law around under-age drinking."

Mr Johal has agreed to close the shop and hand in his personal licence in exchange for the prosecution against him being dropped.

He said: "I'm not going to appeal the decision because the shop doesn't make ends meet anyway."
