The woman Conservatives had pinned their hopes on for the next General Election has resigned after only a year working for the party in Hayes.

Elly Jupp, the Conservative Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Hayes and Harlington, announced on Friday she is standing down.

The 24-year-old cited undisclosed personal reasons for the decision.

She said: "It is with deep regret that I announce that I will not stand as the Conservative candidate for Hayes and Harlington at the next General Election.

"I remain determined the Conservatives win this seat.

"I don't want to go into the detail of my decision other than to say it is for personal reasons."

Campaign manager Councillor Mary O'Connor paid tribute to the 'superb candidate' and hopes Ms Jupp will be an MP in the future.
