LIKE all fair-minded people, I am naturally disappointed about the proposed closure of Feltham Job Centre (Chronicle, March 5) and hope a reprieve can still be given to this useful resource.

I would, however, like to take issue with Tory council leader Peter Thompson, who has written to the Department for Work and Pensions about the matter.

It is all very well for him to complain that 800 borough residents have been made redundant, but his local authority is only making matters worse.

Hounslow's Conservatives have wasted no less than £4million of council tax payer's money on consultants. The result has been to throw 300 council staff on the dole. In my opinion, this is a pointer to the type of thing that the Tories will do nationally if theygain power at the next general election.

They will turn the difficulties caused by the world recession into an absolute misery, with record job losses.

This fact should concentrate people's minds when they come to mark their cross on the ballot sheet.
