A 19-year-old postman has been sentenced for intentionally destroying post.

Joel Scott, of Humber Drive, in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, appeared at Hendon Magistrates' Court on October 31 after indicating guilty to delaying the delivery of a package by opening it and destroying it.

The man, who was working for the TNT depot in Colindeep Lane, Kingsbury, was found to have intentionally destroyed the package in June.

Scott was sentenced to 12 weeks, suspended for one year.

A spokeswoman for Whistl, formerly TNT Post, said: "We take issues of mail security very seriously and when we were made aware of the situation, we investigated and he was reported to Police for a Section 83 Offence under the Postal Services Act and Police subsequently arrested and charged.

"He was dismissed following the investigation."
