If you want a dog who doesn’t require too much walking, Tiggy could be for you.

After meeting him in the courtyard at Dogs Trust, where he had a good run around, I went to see him shortly afterwards in his kennel and he was already curled up in his basket, fast asleep.

This Yorkshire terrier-cross has been reliant on Dogs Trust for most of his life.

Brought over to Dogs Trust Harefield , from Ireland, after being found as a stray, he was homed by them in 2010 but was returned earlier this year as his owners were having a baby.

Tiggy is between five and seven-years-old and likes lots of fuss and cuddles.

Because he is on medication for a thyroid problem, he is eligible to be homed under the Dogs Trust Shared Adoption Scheme.

This means, if you home Tiggy, Dogs Trust will make a financial contribution towards the cost of treatment for this condition.

If you are interested, you can meet him at Dogs Trust, Harvil Rd, Harefield.

And now to something completely different.

In the past, I have spoken about Mark and Sam Green who relocated to Sri Lanka two years ago to start the animal charity, Dogstar Foundation. Many of you will have met Mark and Sam at the Ealing Animal Welfare Bazaar. Since Dogstar started it has helped thousands of animals. Some of the items they use are imported from the UK and they have recently appealed for flight volunteers. Under this system, if you visit Sri Lanka and have spare capacity in your luggage allowance, you can donate some of this capacity to Dogstar to use to bring in vital supplies. This saves them money on sea freight.

If you are interested, email volunteer@dogstarfoundation.com stating you want to be a flight volunteer and agree the size and weight you can donate. Dogstar arrange delivery of items to your home. A member of Dogstar’s team, Sam or Mark, will meet you at the airport in Sri Lanka to collect the items. You can then enjoy your visit knowing you have helped their animal welfare work.
