THOUSANDS of pounds were stolen after a Croxley Green supermarket was targeted by burglars.

The offenders forced their way into the back of the Co-op, in New Road, before removing the back of a cash machine before making off with the cash.

The break-in happened between 11pm on Saturday (5) and 7am on Sunday (6).

Detective Constable Paul Rowley, who is investigating the incident, said: "This was clearly a planned and audacious crime which has caused a lot of damage to the building.

"I am appealing to anyone who may have been in or around the area after 11pm on Saturday night and 7am on Sunday morning, and who may have seen anything suspicious, to contact us immediately."
