PINN Meadows campaigners presented their petition against the second artificial pitch at Eastcote Hockey Club to a full council meeting.

Mike Grimmel, lead petitioner and vice-chairman of Friends of Pinn Meadows (FOPM) gave a five-minute speech at the meeting, which was attended by almost all 65 elected council members, with FOPM supporters in the public gallery.

Because council officers have yet to evaluate the complex evidence concerning the club’s application and make a recommendation to the council, the petition could not be debated.

It was referred to the north planning committee for consideration with the planning application, which is not scheduled to be discussed until at least March 26.

Mr Grimmel was able to present the petition because it had been signed by more than 2,500 people – 5,595 in fact – thought by FOPM to be the largest number of petitioners against a planning application.
