I am writing in relation to your article Government is waging war on our cemetery in the Hayes and Harlington Gazette [January 7].

The unnecessary uncertainty surrounding Cherry Lane Cemetery has caused considerable distress to the local community.

I would therefore like to again point out that in November last year, BAA committed to ruling out building a road anywhere within the Cherry Lane Cemetery boundary.

Various indicative options for road layouts were drawn up for the Government consultation. The road within the Cherry Lane Cemetery boundary was considered to have the best road layout from an engineering perspective. This is why that particular option was published in the Government's consultation document, but has now been categorically ruled out.

Now a policy decision has been taken by the Government to go ahead with a third runway, BAA will carry out detailed transport planning and local consultation on the various road layouts, in partnership with TfL, the Highways Agency, local authorities and residents.

As this work evolves, we will be continually updating local residents and stakeholders.
