THE National Curriculum test marking system is a cause for grave concern.

Recently, a former exam marker, Liz Brockeheurat, has revealed that the National Curriculum marking system for England and Wales has been in crisis since being politicised during the time when David Blunkett was education secretary.

A disgusted headmistress revealed recently that imaginative, literate children have in some instances been awarded fewer marks in their Standard Assessment Tests (SATS) than children who have yet to master basic spelling and grammar.

Last year the American company ETS was awarded a £156m five-year contract and is currently marking SATs tests which is, in my view, a scandalous state of affairs. Sadly, our government stands back and does nothing to put matters right.
