AS FORMER residents of Hanworth we travelled from Battle, in East Sussex, to our old home town, for a last visit to an event which has always been admired for its organisation and professionalism - Hanworth Carnival.

We spent several happy hours mingling with the crowd and enjoying the stalls and attractions which make up this celebrated event. We had many wonderful years involved with Hanworth Carnival organisation, mainly chaperoning the Carnival Court when they were attending the many fundraising events and it was great to see with some of the girls again.

We were also pleased to be involved with the Young Oaks who, in the years following 1994, organised many fundraising events of their own.

We were delighted to meet up with some of their founder members at the carnival and afterwards at their evening reunion which, although not as well attended as the earlier event, was full of fun and laughter and shared memories.

Tribute must of course be made to the dedicated individuals and families involved in Hanworth Carnival throughout the years, for their unflagging commitment and hard work in organising an event which had long been the envy of other carnivals.

But, as they say, all good things must come to an end.

The carnival may be over but the memories will always linger on.
