ONGOING flooding issues on a main road in Hanworth Park could soon be solved after Thames Water and TfL (Transport for London) agreed to tackle the problem.

For more than a year, heavy rain in the area has caused flooding on the A312 Uxbridge Road near the junction of Eastborne Road.

Councillor Paul Jabbal said: "We have raised the issue with TfL, who own the road, on numerous occasions as this has been an ongoing problem for some time.

"We are hoping it will now be resolved quickly as the current situation is not acceptable. It is a very busy road and whenever there is heavy rain the flooding causes traffic congestion and problems for the residents."

Investigations into the cause of the flooding have already begun and Thames Water will use CCTV to determine if there are any structural defects in the sewer.

Councillor Jabbal, who is chair of the West Area Committee, said: "There are some very large trees at that part of the road and we think there is some root ingress into the drainage system.

"There has also been a problem with the volume of water overloading the gullies and more gullies are needed to allow the water to pass through."

Once Thames Water has made any necessary repairs to the drainage system, TfL will consider resurfacing the road in order to remove depressions, which are causing ponding and compounding the drainage problem.

Work by TfL will also be carried out to clear existing debris which is blocking the gullies.

A timetable for the work is yet to be drawn up, but Councillor Jabbal has vowed to keep pressuring both companies until the work is completed.

He said: "This issue has to be resolved sooner rather than later and we will be pressing them to do so with all means possible - this has been going on too long."
