THE UNIVERSITY of West London is now officially the new name for Thames Valley University after a launch celebrating the change was held last week.

It comes as new boss took the helm of the university based in St Mary's Road, Ealing, and Brentford.

A plaque bearing the new logo and was unveiled by Dame Christine Beasley, the government's chief nursing officer for England, and UWL's new chancellor alumnus Laurence Geller.

Mr Geller is widely regarded in the tourism industry and is chairman and CEO of the company Strategic Hotels and Resorts which runs a range of establishments in the sector.

The event was held at the St Mary's campus on Thursday (12).

The new logo combines the U of university with a wing shape which symbolises the Griffin, a mythological creature with the body of a lion, the wings and head of an eagle and which is a symbol of west London.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter John said: “This is a natural progression for TVU which is now a very different institution to that which was granted university status in 1992.

“The name change is necessary in order to align our new direction of travel with our clear brand and geographical identity which now lies at the heart of West London focusing on our two campuses in Ealing and Brentford.”
