OBJECTORS to the proposed Tesco store in the village have made their representations and are now playing a waiting game.

Much to the chagrin of many in Harefield, a new planning application was lodged at the beginning of December for a new supermarket.

Opponents claim the plans are a near replica of the application which was refused for the site next to Kings Arms Pub, in Park Lane, Harefield.
Last June the planning inspectorate turned down an appeal by Tesco, on the grounds that the site which is at a busy crossroads was too cramped, and already suffered from traffic problems, which delivery lorries would only exacerbate.

Controversially, Tesco's new plans require the lopping of several trees, which are not on the old petrol garage property owned by the superstore.
Harefield Hospital, which is a matter of metres away from the proposed store is believed to have lodged its own objections, while the Harefield Tenants and Residents Association, and several local traders have done the same.

Several small shops in the village are concerned that a Tesco would demolish their trade, and significantly reduce their takings.

They had one month after Tesco lodged their application to gather as many signatures and letters of objection as possible, with some viewing the timing as a sneaky move over Christmas, with many people away visiting relatives or detached from the normal routine.

Now the matter will sit with Hillingdon Council's planning committee, who will ultimately decide the future landscape of Harefield.
