FORMER England football boss Terry Venables has been appointed the new technical advisor of non-league club Wembley FC. The coup has come about through the amateur outfit's recent sponsorship deal with the Budweiser beer company, who are a sponsor of The FA Cup, the competition in which the team is aiming for particular success next season. In his first football job since he guided the national side, Mr Venables is to mentor The Lions' manager Ian Bates in 2012/13 and has already addressed players and staff at the club, which plays its home games at Vale Farm Sports Club, Watford Road, Wembley.Mr Venables, known as El Tel, said: "Managing, coaching and teaching football has been an essential part of my life for over 30 years. "This opportunity to share my knowledge of decades with an eager group of players and coaches was too important to turn down. "If they are willing to learn, I am willing to teach. Grassroots football is essential for the lifeblood of the professional game and if I can leave Wembley FC in a better position than I found it, then it will be a job well done."It is early days but the signs are encouraging."Mr Venables won the FA trophy with Tottenham Hotspur as a player in 1967 and as manager in 1991 so will bring much-needed experience to the club, which currently sits 10th in the Cherry Red Records Combined Counties Football League premier division, the fifth rung of the non-league pyramid.Mr Bates said: "This is a tremendous opportunity for Wembley FC. To have a football legend like Terry Venables mentor not just me, but the whole club is a dream come true."I believe that our passion combined with his expertise will propel the club to new levels. "Terry's arrival has brought extra magic to this already fantastic experience for the club and we're looking forward to the journey."Iain Newell, Budweiser's UK marketing director, said: "We believe that the best way to champion The FA Cup is to celebrate itsuniqueness from the grassroots up helping to create unexpected moments and real anticipation for what may come."We're pleased to be able to support Wembley FC as they strive to achieve their dreams and we think their story will really resonate with FA Cup fans regardless of which team they support."
