EXASPERATED families in a new block of flats have branded the building a disaster just two months after moving in.

The occupants of Burnaby Court in Lancelot Road, Wembley, held a meeting to discuss their woes.

They then contacted their MP, Liberal Democrat Sarah Teather, (pictured)  and are demanding landlord London and Quadrant Housing Trust (L&Q) address the shortcomings.

Tenant Sevda Aksinoglu, 27, who moved into her two-bed third-floor apartment on March 3, said: “It’s a freshly-built building which is a disaster.

“The problems haven’t stopped since I moved in – we have so many issues.”

The mother to girls Tafijah, nine, and Ajahni, five, said they were assured they would have on-street parking but it transpired there were no spaces and they were not eligible for either residents-only permits or event day passes.

“We can’t park our cars nearby and it’s a nightmare. I’m getting ticket after ticket,” added Ms Aksinoglu.

“Our communal front door didn’t lock until two days ago and the entry panel has never worked.

“Because of that, we’ve found rough sleepers in our hallways and downstairs in the communal area.

“They come and smoke and drink and we have found syringes, smashed glass and drugs in the children’s playground. It’s a nightmare.

“Some of the kids are frightened to walk to the front door.”

She added that one tenant’s flat had a leaky ceiling, while others had complained about fittings not being properly installed and phone and internet connections had not been set up.

She added: “I’ve never experienced a quarter of what we’ve experienced here in two months. We’ve had enough.”

L&Q’s resident services manager Sean Fitzsimons said: “L&Q made a mistake when advertising the properties as having car parking available on local streets, and we fully acknowledge the disruption this error has caused to some residents.

“We are currently working urgently with British Telecom and our developer to resolve a number of other issues, including the lack of broadband access and the faulty entry phone.

“Again, I apologise for the ongoing inconvenience this is undoubtedly causing residents and will be in touch with them shortly with an update.”
