Friends of a murdered Queens Park teenager are taking action to tackle knife crime.

Young people held a meeting on Friday with police at the Stowe Centre in Harrow Road, Westbourne Green, in a bid to crack-down on violent crime in North Westminster.

The event was set up by former Stowe Centre support worker Margaret Amadi, who was devastated when she heard that Amro El-Badawi, 14, of the Mozart Estate, Third Avenue, had been stabbed to death just metres from his home on March 27.

"It was such a shock when I saw on the front of the newspaper that he had died, because he used to come here when I worked here," she said.

"I was already against knife crime, but that really spurred me on to do something about it."

One of Amro's close friends, Kevaua Francis, 18, of the Warwick Estate in Bourne Terrace, Westbourne Green, said the event was a positive step to reducing knife crime.

He said: "I'd say to young people that it's much better to go and play football rather than causing trouble, because it could mean another life is lost for no reason.

"Sometimes young people feel that the police don't really understand them, but today we've had the chance to speak to them and put our views across."

He added that he and his friends had recently held a party on what would have been Amro's 15th birthday. He said: "Even though he couldn't be there, we still wanted to celebrate his life."
