A delivery driver who attacked his girlfriend with a hammer outside a Southall Sikh temple to mimic notorious American serial killer Ted Bundy has been jailed indefinitely.

Fitness fanatic Mittu Bedi, 25, hit Salina Chopra over the head in his car outside the Sriguru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Park Avenue, Southall.

He later confessed he had copied Bundy - who murdered up to 35 people by hitting them over the head and strangling them - after watching a film about his life.

Miss Chopra was looking for her keys in the back of his car when Bedi hit her three times.

The 23-year-old victim escaped but was left with severe psychological trauma following the early morning attack on May 1 last year.

Bedi drove straight to a police station near his home in Hayes and handed himself in.

He wanted to go to jail to escape his creditors, the Old Bailey heard at his sentencing last Thursday. (JAN 15)

Judge Richard Hawkins imprisoned him indefinitely for public protection.
