A SCHOOL has a new role after being granted a prestigious new status.

Bishop Ramsey Church of England School is one of only 150 schools in England to be designated a Teaching School.

It will lead a group of others in the borough to deliver support for teachers and leaders at all stages of their career.

Andrew Wilcock, headteacher at Bishop Ramsey, in Hume Way, Ruislip, said: “I am delighted that we have been selected as a Teaching School. I look forward to working closely with our strategic partners to support the continuing rise in educational standards in Hillingdon.”

The secondary school will work with Haydon, Douay Martyrs, The Eden Academy, Deanesfield, Hayes Park School and Brunel University to lead the training and professional development of staff.

The National College for School Leadership and the Department for Education are aiming to designate 500 Teaching Schools around the country by 2015.

Maggie Farrar, executive director at the college, said: “Teaching schools like Bishop Ramsey should be proud of their achievement as they need to be at the top of their game to take on this role.”
