A TEACHER from Chiswick described as an ‘incredible and kind man’ has died in a car crash.

Nick Sennett, who taught economics at Latymer Upper School, Hammersmith, has been remembered by former and existing pupils and colleagues this week.

He died after being involved in a collision with three other cars on the A40 near Paddington on Tuesday (April 16) at 7.40am.

Headteacher David Goodhew told the Chronicle: “Nick’s colleagues, his students, both current and former, as well as their parents, are grieving for his tragic and untimely death, and our thoughts are very much with his family at this dreadful time. Tributes to Nick have been flooding in via email and social media and it is clear he touched the lives of so many and is remembered with tremendous warmth and affection.

“The school has lost a great teacher, a dear tutor and a good friend.”

Mr Sennett, 50, from Chiswick, had taught at the school for almost five years. He was a sixth form tutor, coached the year nine rowing team and ran the school’s Young Enterprise scheme, which helps pupils start up their own businesses.

Students from one such business, ECHO, a range of naturally amplifying speakers, paid tribute to their mentor.

A statement on their Facebook page said: “Without Mr Sennett, ECHO would be in no position that it is in today. Throughout our journey he has taught us, advised us and shared many jokes along the way. An absolutely incredible and kind man who will be sorely missed by the group and beyond. We cannot begin to imagine the grief among his family, and our deepest thoughts are with them.”

Former pupils took to social networking site Twitter to pay their respects.

Benjamin Taylor tweeted: “My 1000th tweet is dedicated to Nick Sennett, my old economics teacher who died this morning after a car crash. You’ll be missed, sir. #RIP”

Joey Simnett tweeted: “RIP Nick Sennett, one of the most lovely and banterous (sic) teachers I’ve had and a family friend, he will be missed.”

The school flag will fly at half-mast tomorrow in his memory.

The driver of a Peugeot 5008 was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Witnesses to the crash are asked to call Detective Sergeant John Hartfree from the Hampton Road Death Investigation Unit on 020 8941 9011 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
