Taxpayers are having their say on what they feel their money should be spent on, and what difficult decisions should be made as Harrow Council looks to shrink its budget .

Councillors held their first consultation meeting on Wednesday as a part of their Take Part scheme which proposes a wealth of cuts and possible closures of community sites such as libraries and art centres .

The consultation kicked off at Portland Crescent, in Queensbury.

Councillor Sue Anderson portfolio holder community, culture and resident engagement said: “The government has significantly cut the grant it gives to Harrow council, so we have to slash over £75million from our budget over the next four years.

“Our Take Part consultation gives the residents of Harrow the opportunity to express their views on how we can make these decisions. I am really pleased over 100 people took the time to speak to us about a range of local issues, including the budget consultation.

“This is the first of a number of events we will be holding where residents can speak to councillors.”

The next chance to speak to councillors about their proposals will be at Under One Sky on Sunday, and then the following Saturday from midday until 4pm outside Rayners Lane underground station.
