TALENTED young filmmakers will have their creations screened at a cinema after winning a competition.

The winners of Project 7, a Brent Council and West London Partnership contest, have been announced as Daniel Bailey, 22, from Neasden, and Shanice Grant-Barnett, 24, from Wembley.

Mr Bailey's film The Boxer, filmed at Stonebridge Boxing Club, was chosen as the overall winning entry because he created a "touching and original" relationship between two family members involved in the sport of boxing.

Mr Bailey attended a script-writing workshop in Granville Youth Centre, Kilburn, and is described as a "young, ambitious and creative intellect" currently in his final year at Kingston University.

A council spokesman said: "Daniel's creative passion has led him into areas such as urban and graphic design, music, acting and more recently film and script writing. Daniel intends to achieve further success in each field and hopes to develop his writing skills and have more of his scripts picked up and produced in the near future."

Ms Grant-Barnett's film Memory Lane is about Lewis James who has the perfect family life. However after the tragic death of his baby daughter Rosie, his world falls apart.

She has had a passion for the arts from a young age, performing in a number of venues and participating in competitions ranging from dance, singing, acting and modelling. She Drama and Theatre Arts at Middlesex University and since graduating has pursued a career in acting and directing in stage and film.

A council spokesman said: "As a writer, this is her first short film and she is looking to extend 'Memory Lane' into a longer feature piece. Shanice is an aspirational all rounder who is performing in the London 2012 ceremonies."

There will be a special screening of the two winning entries at the Lexi Cinema, Kensal Rise, on Tuesday April 17 at 6pm.

The competition was overseen by the film production company Scruffbag Productions, and was designed to "engage young people with education through the arts whilst combining the biggest event of the year, London 2012".

The competition was open to all young people in Brent aged 14 to 25 years, who were encouraged to submit films of no more than seven minutes long which were based around one of the seven Olympic and Paralympic values; respect, excellence, friendship, courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

Brent's lead member for environment and neighbourhoods, Cllr James Powney, said; "Congratulations to Daniel and Shanice for their winning film ideas and a huge thank you to everyone who entered the competition."
