Over 800 teachers from Hillingdon’s secondary schools went back to the classroom as part of a new initiative to enhance education in the borough.
The conference, hosted by Bishop Ramsey Church of England School, Hume Way, Ruislip, encouraged teachers to share best practice, explore partnership working between schools and build information sharing networks with other teachers in Hillingdon.
A series of workshops and lectures ran throughout the day on a range of topics from supporting parents to motivating disaffected pupils. Teachers then had the opportunity to work with their peers from other schools to share their experiences and discuss new ways of working.
Councillor David Simmonds, cabinet member for education and children’s services, said: “This is a great example of Hillingdon teachers working together to strive for excellence for their pupils.
“By sharing best practice in this way our young people will benefit from the skills, specialism’s and experience of our dedicated teaching staff across the borough.”
This was the first event of its kind in Hillingdon and organised by representatives from each of the boroughs 10 secondary schools.
Andrew Wilcock, headteacher at Bishop Ramsey, said: “The event has been a great success and we hope it will help promote a culture where our staff continue to learn and collaborate with teachers from other schools that give lessons in the same subjects.”
