POLICE found the remains of a cannabis factory in a raid sparked by a tip-off from a landlord who became suspicious when he could not contact his tenants.

Officers stormed the five-bedroom home in Locarno Road, Acton. The criminals had already left when they arrived at about 11.30am on Wednesday and there were no arrests.

The search was part of Operation Ten-pin, a day of raids, licensing visits and reassurance patrols led by the police and the council. Chief Inspector Dan Thorpe said “This was a great opportunity where different partner agencies got together to tackle a problem head on.

"Working together, were able to identify and strengthen community cohesion in those places that needed it most.”

Tell-tale signs of a cannabis factory include permanently shuttered or covered windows and large numbers of empty compost bags dumped by bins.

Anyone who spots something suspicious should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
