THE Crown Prosecution Service says it will take no further action against Ealing’s police commander who was accused of leaking information to a journalist.

Chief Superintendent Andy Rowell was arrested earlier this year as part of a Metropolitan Police Investigation into alleged illegal payments by journalists to police and other officials.

Mr Rowell was never accused of having received any money.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: "A 51-year-old man who was arrested as part of Operation Elveden was informed on Monday (8) there will be no further action taken.

"The man, a serving Metropolitan Police officer in the Territorial Policing command based in west London was arrested at his home address in Wiltshire on February 14 on suspicion of misconduct in public office, contrary to common law. The officer remains suspended from duties pending the outcome of internal misconduct proceedings."

Steve Pound, MP for Ealing North said: "I’ve already called Andy to congratulate him and I am absolutely delighted with the news. Ealing needs Andy Rowell and I can’t wait to welcome him back personally.”

Angie Bray, MP for Ealing Central and Acton said: “I was delighted when I heard that there will be no further action against Andy Rowell. I very much hope that means he will be able to return to Ealing.”
