DEAN Gardens in West Ealing remained cordoned off by police this morning (Thursday) following a suspected rap.

Witnesses are being sought after a 38-year-old man was believed to have been attacked at around 4.50am on Wednesday (October 19) at the park in The Broadway.

Forensics teams were at the site until Thursday. At the time of going to press, no-one had been arrested and enquiries are ongoing.

David Highton, chair of residents group West Ealing Neighbours said: “I walk past Dean Gardens every day so I saw police there and I heard there may have been a rape.

“There are two very different types of people who use Dean Gardens. In the daytime it’s a popular spot for families and the children’s play area gets a lot of use. It’s an essential part of West Ealing.

“Where we run into problems is late at night or very early in the morning, when different kinds of people come there from all over the borough. It’s a very big problem and we have been talking to police about it for a while now. They are very anxious to do something about it and it’s horrific that something like this could have happened.”

Mr Highton said he would be meeting with police today (October 21) to discuss setting up with a joint action group with WEN to tackle ongoing problems with crime and anti-social behaviour at the park.

In a separate incident, 31-year-old Abdullahi Osman, a Somali national living in Uxbridge, died after a vicious assault in Dean Gardens in August.
