TWO sisters who mailed a postcard to their parents' grave in Bedfont were amazed when it got delivered.

Diane Sandeman and Elaine Wake were holidaying together in Tenerife when they decided to send the card to their parents' final resting place in Bedfont Cemetery.

Now they are hoping to track down the postman who delivered the card.

Elaine, 64, who lives in Pinner, said: "Our dad died seven years ago, but mum only died a year and half ago. We were sat by the pool writing our postcards and I said to Diane that one of the things I missed most was writing one to mum and she suggested we should send one anyway as it would make me feel better.

"So we wrote them a card telling them that we missed them and we posted it, but we never expected it to get delivered."

The pair returned home and thought nothing more of the postcard until they paid a visit to the cemetery and found the card sat next to the grave, tucked under a flowerpot to stop it blowing away.

Diane, 57, from Hatchett Road, Bedfont, said: "We didn't actually expect the postcard to be delivered but when we went to tend the grave it was there.

"We were stunned it had been delivered and fell about laughing. We decided we wanted to say a big thank you to whoever delivered it for making the effort - we never thought it would actually get there."

The pair had addressed the card to Bedfont Cemetery and included directions to the correct grave and they believe it may have been delivered by an off-duty postman.

Diane, who works in a betting shop, has been telling customers about the unexpected delivery and one of her regulars believes he may know the kind-hearted postie in question.

The mystery continues, however, as Royal Mail has been unable to confirm that the postcard was delivered by one of it employees.

But whoever it was that delivered the card, Elaine and Diane have been moved by the good deed.

Elaine said: "We found it so touching that someone would go to the trouble of delivering it and just wanted to say thank you."
