THERE is good news for worried residents after planning permission for a super-size housing development has been rejected.

Locals who live near the proposed redevelopment of Reynard Mills, the former BBC site in Windmill Road, Brentford, have campaigned for years to see plans for 275 flats scrapped.

Though the site is in Brentford, its proximity to Ealing meant residents from both boroughs pushed for its rejection.

Northfields ward councillor David Millican said: "I am obviously very happy about this and the residents are pleased about it too. We worked very closely with residents to get this result. It was far too dense and far too large. I don't know what they (Invista Real Estate) will do next, but if they do come back the plans will have to have changed significantly.

"Clearly something needs to be there but we need something that is more sympathetic to the surroundings."
Planning officials rejected the plans on Tuesday (April 17) because they said it would not improve the character and quality of the area.

According to their rejection document the density and size of the development would be harmful to the outlook and character of the area.

It also said the housing structure would put undue strain on local education and health facilities.

At a meeting earlier on in the year Hounslow Councillors admitted they had received hundreds of letters of complaints about the proposed site.
