Students at Chiswick School gained an insight into a variety of job roles through a speed networking event, last week.

Similar to speed-dating, 200 Year 9 pupils were split into groups and given six minutes to find out as much as they could about what different jobs entailed from employees at companies including Discovery, Otis and Foxtons.

Among the people quizzed, across 40 businesses, were a TV producer, engineer, graphic designer, policeman, editor, events manager, chartered surveyor and more.

The event hosted by Enjoy-Park at Chiswick Park was attended by 200 pupils as part of the Future Focus employability programme.

Students said the opportunity taught them the world of work "can be really pressurised," but that "working very hard will make you successful."

Elizabeth Lawrence, school careers advisor said: “It is tempting for a year nine student to only envisage working in a role that they come across in their everyday life or in a job that someone does in their family.

"Speed networking opens the students’ eyes to so many other career possibilities.”

Gemma McNeilis for Enjoy-Work, added: “We have been involved in Chiswick School’s Future Focus programme from the start.

"Each year we’re seeing growing number of employees from Chiswick Park supporting it, and it’s really gathering momentum.

"We see the employees getting as much from the experience as the students and we look forward to the students returning to the Park as the workforce of the future!”

Headteacher, Tony Ryan concluded: “Students were completely engaged and asked some wonderful questions of the employers.”
