A SIXTH form student whose mother is suffering from cancer has been honoured for researching treatment to improve her condition.

Harpreet Chana, of Uxbridge High School in The Greenway, was given a Jack Evans Award for outstanding young people at a ceremony at the Civic Centre.

Harpreet has researched and found treatment that has improved her mother’s condition. She is even in the process of setting up a charity to help people who suffer in similar ways to her mother and to raise awareness about it.

To raise money she will also take part in a sky dive later this year.

Jack Evans was a former headteacher of Abbotsfield School in Clifton Gardens who did a lot of youth work in the Borough.

He left a legacy to the Rotary club in Uxbridge and every year seven of the secondary schools in the area are invited to select a worthy candidate to be its recipient.
