HAIRDRESSING students took part in a makeover event to achieve an award they have been working hard for all year.

Year 10 pupils at Northwood School, in Potter Street, Northwood Hills, had great fun at the makeover event on Thursday last week.

The 11 hairdressing students, who are studying at the school salon for their NVQ Level 1 in hairdressing, took part in the event to achieve their ASDAN Bronze Award.

ASDAN is a registered charity that rewards pupils' success in a range of skills and settings right up to university level.

Mirella Verbena, the students' ASDAN tutor, said: "As we are very lucky to have the salon in the school and my ASDAN students are all doing hairdressing, I thought it would be an excellent opportunity for them to gain a credit for their award by taking part in the makeover."

Students at the school are able to take the option of hairdressing from Year 10 to 13 as part of the work related learning offered at the school's fully equipped on-site salon.

Northwood School is also celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and will be holding a summer fair on July 4. The hair salon, staffed by students, will be open to the public on the day from midday to 5pm.

* Anyone wishing to make an appointment at the salon, either for this day or any other weekday, can ring the school on 01923 836 363.
