A STUDENT will be climbing Africa’s highest peak to raise money for a charity which helps people in developing countries

Selina Parmar, 20, of High View, Pinner, aims to collect at least £2,650 for a non-governmental organisation called Practical Action after her sponsored trek to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Selina, a former student of North London Collegiate School in Stanmore, will be climbing the 19,341ft peak in Tanzania this summer.

The London School of Economics student said: “Practical Action works to reduce poverty through the use of technology and sustainable solutions, using physical infrastructure, machinery and equipment, knowledge and skills. They work with a number of developing countries in Asia, Latin America and Africa.”

She added: “I travelled to Zambia in 2009 to teach at a school there for a month. The impact that I saw on the local people from our teaching and involvement encouraged me to raise money for a charity that works at the local level to help communities.”
