A Brentford-based dance group is set to show off its moves in the XXL Streetdance UK Championships for the first time this summer.

Alliance Dance Unit has won a coveted place at the prestigious competition, being held at Wembley Arena on July 19.

The troupe's elite team will compete to be named the UK's top street dance act and go on to represent their country at the global championships the following day. Past winners include Diversity and Twist & Pulse.

Before then, they are due to compete in the finals of Hounslow Has Talent this Saturday (May 31), followed by an appearance at the official opening of Age UK's new premises the next day.

Alliance Dance Unit, which meets at Rose Community Centre, in Hawthorn Road, Brentford, had just four dancers when it was founded by then 16-year-old Torron Lee Dewar, who used to practise in his grandmother's backyard.

But it now boasts more than 80 members and has just launched three new classes to accommodate those on its lengthy waiting list.

The classes, beginning next Tuesday, June 3, are: 6+ Junior, for young beginners; Adult Advanced Choreography, for those wanting to step it up to the next level; and Adult Fitness Hour, for those looking to keep in shape.

All three classes cost £20 for a block of four one-hour sessions. For more information, and to book a place, visit www.alliancedanceunit.co.uk or call 0793 0594 610.
