Gladiators, aliens, long-dead relatives and magical games were some of the brilliant ideas behind entries to our online short story writing contest, StoryStar.

www.londoninformer.co.uk had dozens of entries to the competition that asked west London children aged between four and 18 to pen a tale of up to 1,000 words about the internet - and every single one of them was a pleasure to read.

The overall winner, and winner of the 8 - 11 years old category, is Ravenscourt Park Preparatory School student Lara Tegner, 10, from Fulham, with her brilliant romp through the ages in Rufus Maximus . She has won a box of books for her classmates from Random House publishers based in Ealing, three books for herself, and lunch with acclaimed children's author Tabitha Suzuma.

The winning story of the 12 - 18 years old category is Freeze and Disappear by Neesha Soni, 12, who goes to Lady Margaret School and lives in Fulham. She has won books for her classmates and herself.

All of the entries are published online.
