THEY'RE usually the ones doing the helping but a group of guides was rescued by a storage company after its camping gear was stolen.

1st Hanworth Guides used to store their tents and sleeping bags in a shed at Hanworth Village Hall, but they were devastated to find some of it missing after a break-in last month.

The group, which has been running since 1924, could not afford to hire alternative facilities, having started using the shed after the rent was increased on its former council garage.

But Safestore Hanworth was happy to step in and do its best by providing storage space for free, ensuring the dozen girls belonging to the unit could carry on camping.

Louis Jones, store manager at Safestore Hanworth, said: "We are delighted we could help 1st Hanworth Guide Unit and are more than happy to keep their equipment safe and sound, ready for their next camping trip."

1st Hanworth Guide leader Debra Griffiths said: "The guides at 1st Hanworth would like to say a big thank you to the staff at Safestore Hanworth for everything they have done in providing a secure unit for the storage of their camping equipment."
