A STOLEN hire car is thought to have been used in a hit and run collision involving a cyclist.

Police are looking for witnesses and any help from the public after a silver Hyundai i30 was involved in a collision with a cyclist, leaving the 23 year-old victim suffering from head injuries.

The collision happened on Sunday, June 30 at 13.15pm in Harrow Road, Kensal Green, the car failed to stop at the scene.

Officers attended and London Ambulance Service took the male cyclist to a central London hospital suffering head and arm injuries. He remains in hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Next of kin are aware.

Officers from the Traffic Garage at Hampton are investigating, it is understood the cyclist was travelling along Harrow Road, towards Kensal Green when, outside Queen's Park library, a silver coloured car collided with the cyclist from behind. The car did not stop and continued along Harrow Road turning right into Fifth Avenue.

A car believed to be involved was found abandoned outside a school on Monday morning, in Malvern Place in Queen's Park, registration number EO62 NZTl, it had suffered extensive windscreen damage and had dents in the roof.

The car was reported to have been stolen from Portgate Close in West Kilburn at some point after 11pm on Saturday, June 29.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the sighting of the car both before and after the collision between 11pm on Saturday, June 29 and 7:15am on Monday, July 1.

Detective Inspector Jacquie Darg from Hampton Traffic Garage said: "We are appealing for any witnesses and information about the car and its driver involved in this collision.

"We would ask anyone who has seen this car driving around or parked anywhere between those times to contact us. After the collision it would have been very apparent that the windscreen had been extensively damaged.

"We are also still keen to hear from any witnesses to the collision that haven't yet spoken to police."

Anyone who can assist police are asked to call the Traffic Garage's witness line on 020 8941 9011 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. There has been no arrest at present and enquiries continue. The car is a hire car and the current hirer reported it stolen on Monday morning, 1 July.
