A police car on an emergency call with its lights flashing was damaged after colliding with the car it was pursuing in South Harrow.

The saloon Metropolitan Police vehicle suffered damage to its bonnet and front end yesterday in Tregenna Avenue at 3.30pm.

A Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "ANPR intercept officers in a marked police vehicle on 'blues and twos' were pursuing a black Astra that had failed to stop when the Astra collided with a blue Toyota Verso in Tregenna Avenue, Harrow

"As the Astra reversed it collided with the police vehicle.

"The Astra then drove off at speed.

"Police believe the Astra had been stolen and was on false plates.

"Police terminated the pursuit as the risk of injury to police and public was too high.

"Traffic officers investigate the collision.

"The matter has not been referred to the IPCC as this was a damage only collision."

There were no injuries and no arrests.
