DAVID Cameron's response to Labour's alleged smear campaign was direct and forceful: he demanded a personal apology from Gordon Brown over the e-mails which suggested various smear campaigns that Labour might run against prominent Tories.

Hang on a minute, haven't we got a fine example of hypocrisy here?

Where was Mr Cameron when Ian Oakley was arrested, tried and found guilty of harassing other politicians in Watford?

Ian Oakley spent his time as a Hillingdon Conservative councillor slashing tyres, sending poison pen letters, making silent phone calls to Lib Dem members and daubing graffiti on their walls.

Mr Cameron called for, and got, an apology for the e-mail suggesting smearing Tories.

The Liberal Democrats asked David Cameron to apologise for the criminal actions of his councillor - and the silence is deafening.

I wonder if the real reason Mr Cameron was angry about that e-mail is that he wished his lot had thought of it first?
