Television writer Steven Moffat has been appointed OBE for services to drama.

The 53-year-old writer, who currently lives in Richmond and is well known for his work on Doctor Who, was named in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for 2015.

Steven Moffat not only wrote several iconic episodes of Doctor Who, but also created beloved TV series Sherlock, starring Kensington-born Benedict Cumberbatch - who was also included in the honours list.

The writer has won many awards for his writing, including five BAFTA awards, four Hugo Awards and an Emmy Award.

The news comes after an announcement of the official Doctor Who festival taking place in ExCeL London in November.
