ACCORDING to the old saying, from little acorns do mighty oaks grow.

The same applies when it comes to businesses.

Husband and wife team Ketan and Sonal Shingala started Adorn Beauty in 2009 as just a small stall in Chequers Square in The Mall shopping centre in Uxbridge.

They had seen a gap in the market to offer eyebrow threading to women, since when they have threaded a path to success.

Within nine months they were getting so much repeat custom that they opened in a unit in the shopping centre, in addition to the outside unit. They now have six shops, including Aylesbury and Slough, and another is due to open soon in Romford.

Mr Shingala said word of mouth was vital in getting their dreams off the ground.

“It was my wife’s idea. She was the one who had the knowledge and saw the opportunity.

“We opened up in The Mall and people were interested to try out something that they had not seen before. We had thousands of customers in our first nine months and people asked us why we didn’t open a store – so we did.

“From there the business has grown, and we are looking further down the line to move into two more stores after Romford. Then we will start looking at central London.”

The success of Adorn must surely offer hope and inspiration for anyone thinking of entering this year’s Retail Factor.

Mr Shingala was working in a Marks & Spencer warehouse before embarking on the journey that has led him to the beginnings of a business empire.

In a few years’ time this could be the status of your business, so whatever your idea, take a chance; you never know where it might lead.
