A SHEPHERD'S Bush school has become the first primary school in Hammersmith and Fulham to earn a complete 'outstanding' rating in their latest inspection.

St Stephen's CofE Primary School celebrated with a movie afternoon and popcorn after they received the results of their Ofsted visit last week.

The Uxbridge Road primary, which has 264 pupils aged between three and 11, was visited by school inspectors on May 5 and 6 and returned with a glowing review.

They rated it as outstanding in every aspect including pupil achievement, the quality of teaching, the care and guidance offered to the children and the leadership.

Only two other schools in H&F – Sacred Heart High School and London Oratory School – have swept the board in the same way.

Headteacher Michael Schumm told the Chronicle: "We are absolutely delighted with the report and being recognised in this way.

"It has been a real team effort from the teachers and all the staff, the governors, pupils and parents and everyone works really hard.

"We have set our standards high now and we have always strived to improve and enhance ourselves to we will not be stopping now we have had success."

Only four other schools in the UK have received outstanding marks in every aspect of their Ofsted between September and December last year.

Only one other primary school Brandlehow Primary School, in Wandsworth, reached similar heights.

The Ofsted report said: "The inspirational leadership of the headteacher, deputy headteacher and middle leaders can be seen at every level. As a result, the quality of teaching and learning has improved markedly and provision for care, guidance and support is exemplary.

"Through honest and accurate self-evaluation, underpinning professional development, teachers have developed their skills so that teaching and learning are outstanding and pupils of all abilities are afforded opportunities to excel.

"Pupils work with passion and concentration, and respond enthusiastically to questions which encourage stronger learning."

Councillor Helen Binmore, H&F Council cabinet member for children’s services, said: "This is wonderful news for the school, pupils, staff and parents, as well as the entire borough.

"The inspection result really has given credit where it is due. I am so pleased that Michael and the school have achieved this recognition for their dedication and hard work. Everyone involved in the school’s success should be very proud of themselves."

St Stephen's will host their Summer Fair between noon and 4pm on July 2.
