Your local hospice is looking for volunteers to help at its new centre.

St Luke's Hospice, the charity which cares for the terminally ill in Harrow and Brent, will this July open its new Woodgrange Centre, and is holding an information day to share the exciting new volunteering opportunities available on Thursday, May 29, at its main centre on Kenton Road, Harrow from 10.30am to midday, or 3pm to 4.30pm.

Daycare volunteer Joan Dawson, who first started helping at St Luke’s after she retired as a carer in 2008, said: "I used to work in the community and had links with patients who have been looked after at St Luke’s.

"When I retired, I rang up the hospice to see if I could volunteer to help the patients because I wanted to make someone’s life a little more pleasant and happy.

"I feel like I’m giving something back to the community. People do not need my background in order to volunteer, everyone has something to give and there are lots of volunteering jobs which people can help out with."
