An opticians in Feltham marked World Diabetes Day by making a small donation for every eye test carried out last Friday (14).

Staff at Specsavers in The Centre raised £32 for Diabetes UK by giving £1 for each customer who came in for an eye examination which can help detect the condition and save a diabetics vision.

Optometrists also informed patients of the importance of regular sight tests as they can discover conditions such as diabetes which can lead to blindness if left undetected.

Selcuk Arslan, store director at Specsavers in Feltham, said: "Eye exams do more than just test your vision. By examining your retina an optometrist can detect eye diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma.

"They will sometimes spot signs of other conditions, such as diabetes, and advise you to see your GP."
